Ambisonic Magic - Masters Final Project (Unreal Engine + Wwise)
For this project, I carried out extensive research, planning, and experimentation to create a bespoke magic sound effect library, demonstrated in an ambisonic Unreal Engine environment.
The main aim was to see how immersive and ‘realistic’ could magic sound in a simulation setting. Below are the project’s key points:
Created an original magic sound effects library for 3 spell types within 3 elements (Fire, Ice, Electricity) - all audio recorded, designed, and processed with metadata UCS compliant.
Carried out a perceptual listening test to gain insight into how consumers perceive organic, synthetic, and combined magic sound effects (Power, Realism, Immersion, Magical, Rewarding).
Learnt Unreal Engine 5 to create a virtual environment.
Implemented audio with Wwise.
Utilised ambisonic IRs from Open AIR Library to create high-level immersion.
Constructed an academic report documenting the project’s process.
